Painting was to remember my Grandfather George Sr. He loved gardening, was a quartermaster on a navy ship in the WW2, loved to cook Italian food, was super smart, loved to quote the bible, painted and worked on cars, and grew prize winning Sunflowers. He loved his family and his dog Bengi.
Painting elements:Waves on head indicate his love of knowledge and how intelligent he was. Blue nose for his beautiful blue eyes.Sunflowers on one cheek, purple flowers for me.Daisies because why not.Perfect teeth because he had them, in a glass of water (us kids would always hide them) .
Grandpa was a kind man who was troubled during his life. I do not know if it was because he was in the war or just military in general. As a veteran myself I understand how addiction can grab on to a person and not let go. Many of my fellow soldiers dealt with demons.
Grandpa never missed a day of church. He helped when they needed it. He quoted the bible quite often but seemed in his own world while doing so. He wanted us kids to know the Lord God and how special his love for us was.
He passed quietly while taking a nap one afternoon after mowing the lawn.
His funeral was met with his fellow Veterans, Moose Lodge Brothers, & Mason Brethren, along with friends & family. His daughter was the lead patrol car in the funeral procession. His burial was met with a 21 Gun salute.
